RECENT BIOGRAPHY:
Dr. Dhrubes Biswas is an internationally recognized expert in radio frequency integrated circuits (RFIC) and in technology ventures in Wireless Electronics, Cellular Phone Systems, communication related RFICs. He is permanently based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, while currently operating out of Kolkata, India. He is currently in India on invitation of the Government to assist in setting up entrepreneurial hi-tech ventures in Technology Inspired Products and Services, Information Technology and Electronics, Rural Development and provide vision towards a robust/sustainable Indian High Technology Manufacturing & Services industry.
Dr. Biswas received his B.Tech (EE dept) from IIT, Kharagpur, M.S and Ph.D. in Engineering (Electronic Devices and Materials) from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. During his Ph.D. he has made original contribution to Gas Source MBE and growth/characterization of InGaP/GaAs heterostructures for HBTs and PHEMTs. Following his Ph.D, Dr. Biswas has made fundamental contribution to PHEMT process based Ka Band Power Amplifier MMICs, Switch MMICs and InGaP HBT process based Power Amplifier MMICs for GSM cellular handsets. Apart from providing superb technical leadership for creating next generation advanced technologies, he has taken an instrumental key role in establishing and advising on strategic technology ventures in wireless communication and optical networking electronics worldwide. He is currently on the Board of several companies in USA and Asia as well as Visiting Professor at Cornell University, USA and National Wireless Center, National Chiao Tung University, Hsinchu, Taiwan. He has previously managed numerous semiconductor IC fabrication facilities and processes at Anadigics, Skyworks Solutions Inc., M/A-COM and IBM. Dr. Biswas has also served as a research professor at the National Nanofabrication Facility at Cornell University.
Currently he is the Professor of Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering, Professor-in-Charge of Incubation and Entrepreneurship, Managing Director of Science and Technology Entrepreneurs’ Park and Adjunct Professor of Vinod Gupta School of Management of Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur and directing International University Collaborations, Technology Parks, Business Incubation, Technology Business Incubator for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (Govt of India), Entrepreneurship Programs at IIT, Coordinator, Technopreneur Promotion Program for Innovation grants (Govt of India), Technology Entrepreneurship Development Program for grass-root entrepreneurs (Govt of India), Entrepreneurship Awareness Camps for marginal entrepreneurs (Govt of India), and business liaisons with IIT’s industrial partners and international collaborators. He is also actively conducting research in Metamorphic HEMT/ HBT, and SiGe devices at National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan and in Wide Band Gap HEMT / FETs at Cornell University, while championing the creation of India Innovation Semiconductor Fab at IIT KGP.
He has been associated with government’s (in India) nodal agencies such as WEBEL (West Bengal Electronic Industrial Development Corporation), WBIDC (West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation) and IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) Kharagpur. He has initiated the first West Bengal Govt Venture Fund in joint venture with SIDBI (Small Industries Development Bank of India), WBIDC and WEBEL. He has championed and initiated the Green Plasto-Steel Park in Barjora, West Bengal and West Bengal’s first Biotechnology Park as well as Advanced IT Park in Kharagpur/Kolkata in association with WBIDC and IIT. Currently he is Advisor to Government of West Bengal, INDIA on policies/Information Technology.
Selected in Who's Who in Science and Engineering (1997), Who's Who in America (1999) Who's Who in the World (1999), Man of the Year 1999 (in Technology) and 2000 Outstanding Scientists of the 20th Century, Dr. Biswas has authored numerous technical papers and holds patents. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers (IEEE), Lasers and Electro-Optics Society, Electron Device Society, Communications Society, Microwave Theory and Techniques Society, Solid State Circuits Society and Materials Research Society.

The GaAs High Power 808, 980 nm Laser Diode Process developed here later got transferred to IBM Zurich.
- Manage high power laser bar and single diode wafer processing operations for 808 nm, 880nm, 980nm, 850nm, 860nm, 1040nm and 740 nm.
- Develop and manufacture single mode ridge waveguide structure InGaAs 980 nm lasers for telecommunication and CATV operations.
